Apar Industries Ltd Company background

Founded in: 1989
Managing director: C N Desai

Apar Industries Limited, established in 1958 by the visionary Late Shri Dharmsinh D. Desai, is one of India's most prominent companies, making significant strides in the fields of electrical and metallurgical engineering. Over the years, Apar Industries has built a legacy as a leading player in the manufacturing and supply of power transmission conductors, petroleum specialty oils, and power telecom cables. The company has cemented its position as a global leader in these sectors, ranking among the top three manufacturers of power transmission conductors worldwide, the fourth largest transformer oil producer globally, and the largest domestic cable manufacturer in the renewable energy sector. Moreover, Apar Industries has a strong presence in the automotive lubricants market, further enhancing its reputation as an industrial giant.

Apar Industries' remarkable success is attributed to its commitment to innovation, quality, and global partnerships. The company has strategic collaborations with internationally renowned firms such as ENI S.p.A. of Italy and CTC Global of the USA. These partnerships have allowed Apar Industries to diversify its product portfolio and expand its market reach across the globe. The company operates four subsidiaries as of March 31, 2022, which include Petroleum Specialities Pte. Ltd. in Singapore, Petroleum Specialities FZE in Sharjah, Apar Transmission Distribution Projects Private Limited (ATDPPL), and APAR Distribution Logistics Private Limited. These subsidiaries play a vital role in the company's global operations, with a focus on the manufacturing and distribution of specialty oils, lubricants, and power transmission solutions.

Apar Industries initially began its journey under the name Gujarat Apar Polymers, with a mission to drive growth through innovative products. Incorporated on September 28, 1989, the company quickly expanded its operations to include a captive plant for power and steam cogeneration. The Ankleshwar plant, modernized with cutting-edge technology from M/s Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., USA, significantly enhanced the company's manufacturing capabilities. In 2000, Apar Industries began diversifying its product portfolio by venturing into the transformer oil and specialty oils sectors. This move marked a new chapter in the company’s history, as it began producing Agip brand automotive lubricants through a joint venture with ENI S.p.A., Italy.

In 2008, Apar Industries faced financial challenges, including losses from its subsidiary, Uniflex Cables Ltd. (UCL). Despite these setbacks, the company showed resilience by making provisions for the losses and taking strategic measures to restore profitability. A major turning point came when UCL's subsidiary, Marine Cables Wires Private Limited (MCWPL), was declared a "sick industrial company" by the Board for Industrial Financial Reconstruction (BIFR) in 2009. Apar Industries supported MCWPL's revival plan, which eventually led to the amalgamation of both UCL and MCWPL with Apar Industries.

The company continued to grow and expand, achieving record-breaking milestones in the years that followed. In 2011, Apar Industries achieved impressive growth in its transformer oil and specialty oils division, with a volume increase of approximately 5%. The conductors division also saw a 29.3% increase in volume, underscoring the company's growing prominence in the global market. A key event during this period was the successful completion of several significant projects, including the first Longest Transmission Line Reconductoring project with ACCC Casablanca conductor for Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Ltd.

Throughout the years, Apar Industries has embraced technological advancements and operational efficiencies to maintain its competitive edge. In 2012, the company introduced a series of new specialty cables, which provided better margins and received positive feedback from customers. By 2014, Apar Industries had completed several capacity expansions, including the launch of the Ebeam facility for elastomeric cables at Khatalwad. This expansion allowed the company to meet growing demand from sectors such as railways, defense, and broadband service providers.

The years that followed saw Apar Industries further expand its global footprint. In 2015, the company successfully launched its first turnkey project for High Temperature Low Sag (HTLS) conductors, marking a significant step forward in the development of next-generation power transmission solutions. The automotive lubricants segment also flourished, with a year-on-year sales increase of 11.5%, driven by increased OEM sales and the expansion of marketing channels.

Apar Industries' Specialty Oils division continued its impressive performance in the subsequent years, with volume growth of 2.6% in FY 2016. The Auto Lubes segment posted a 2.9% increase in volume, which represented the highest volume achieved up to that point. The company introduced a state-of-the-art blending unit in Sharjah, which became a cash-positive venture within its first year of operations. This facility strengthened Apar Industries' position in the specialty oils market and contributed to the company’s growing global presence.

By FY 2018, Apar Industries celebrated its Diamond Jubilee year, marking 60 years of success and innovation. The company experienced significant growth across all business segments, particularly in its auto lubricants and conductor divisions. Volumes for the conductors division grew by 5%, while the specialty oil division posted a substantial 10% growth. The demand for auto lubricants surged, with a 34% increase in volumes, as Apar Industries' products gained popularity in both the B2C and OEM segments.

Apar Industries’ consistent growth, strategic expansions, and strong financial performance have made it an attractive investment for stakeholders. The company's success in various industries has positively influenced the Apar Industries share price, which has seen steady growth over the years. Investors have taken notice of Apar Industries' diversified portfolio, robust market presence, and innovative solutions. The company’s stock performance is often closely followed by market analysts, as it remains a key player in India’s industrial sector.

As of 2023, Apar Industries has further expanded its product range, launching a special premium grade of lubricants designed for agricultural machinery, particularly tractors, and other equipment. Additionally, the company ventured into the electric vehicle (EV) sector by introducing special EV tires and harnesses for cables in electric vehicles. Apar Industries continues to invest in state-of-the-art technologies and infrastructure to support its growth in these emerging sectors.

In the financial year 2022-23, Apar Industries incorporated a new wholly-owned subsidiary, CEMA WIRES CABLES INC., to strengthen its presence in the wire and cable sector. The company’s ability to adapt to changing market dynamics and expand into new areas positions it for long-term growth and success. As Apar Industries continues to diversify its product portfolio and explore new markets, it is expected to maintain its leadership in the global market.

Apar Industries has come a long way since its inception in 1958. Through a combination of strategic expansions, technological advancements, and a strong focus on innovation, the company has established itself as a global leader in power transmission conductors, specialty oils, and automotive lubricants. Its commitment to quality, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction has earned Apar Industries a prominent place in the global industrial landscape. With a forward-looking approach and continued investment in emerging sectors, Apar Industries is well-positioned to achieve even greater success in the future, making it a promising entity for investors watching the Apar Industries share price.
